Australian Makers

Go ‘behind the scenes’ into factories, workshops and farms around the country to hear Australian Makers share their unique stories.

De Lorenzo Haircare

Meet the team at De Lorenzo Haircare, a name synonymous with style, design, quality and Australian Made status for over 76 years.

De Lorenzo was established in 1945 when brothers Anton & Vincent de Lorenzo opened their first salon in Sydney’s Redfern. With products made for and on behalf of hairdressers, they pioneered the salon-only, Australian-made product model to become a dynamic force in the haircare industry.

In 2022, with a rich history and strong family spirit, the brand is still proudly dedicated to being 100% Australian Made and owned and remains committed to supporting the local economy.

De Lorenzo is one of the few Australian-made professional haircare brands whose products are all conceived, researched, developed, tested, manufactured and dispatched under one roof. At its production plant in Silverwater, Sydney, De Lorenzo’s team of experts dedicate themselves to creating ethical products - pioneered by passion, uncompromising values, sustainability and a strong social conscience.

Considering the impact of their environmental footprint is a way of life at De Lorenzo. Its products are naturally based, biodegradable, 100% Vegan, and environmentally sustainable; in fact, they have been for over 35 years, long before most companies were aware of its importance and relevance to life today. De Lorenzo even uses its own recycled and rain-harvested water system to manufacture its products, saving millions of litres of water per year.

Since its beginnings, De Lorenzo has consistently set, not chased, standards in the Australian haircare industry and has long since been respected, loved and trusted by the Australian market as an aspirational brand that ensures results. Trends come and go, but family lasts forever, and De Lorenzo leads the Australian market with its heart.

Envirosafe

Meet Matt Carey, Customer Experience Officer at EnviroSafe. EnviroSafe is a proud manufacturer of the world’s most effective fly trap, or as avid users know it, “that one that works!”.

Spending time outdoors is a big part of the Australian lifestyle, and for over 20 years, EnviroSafe has helped Australians enjoy the outdoors without those pesky flies.

As a business that values quality, sustainability, and our community, EnviroSafe is incredibly proud for its products to be certified Australian Made and invests heavily in local manufacturing. Envirosafe also partners with social enterprises like Endeavour Foundation to provide meaningful and continued employment for people with an intellectual disability.

According to Matt, the Australian Made logo is the gold standard. He believes it gives EnviroSafe customers confidence, knowing their products are locally made, support the domestic industry and made to a high-quality standard.

The EnviroSafe range includes safe and effective solutions to control flies, European wasps, mosquitos, and other flying insects.

Sleep Corp

Meet the team at Sleep Corp®.

Can you imagine a world where we all wake up rested, safe in the sanctuary of the bedroom, ready to take on the day with a clear head and that fresh feeling that only comes from a perfect night of sleep? Sleep Corp® can.

Over 40 years ago, David Kaplan, Sleep Corp’s Founder and Managing Director, first saw the need for Mattress Protection when his niece wet the bed. This led David and his brother-in-law, Murray McLeod, to invent the world’s first waterproof mattress protector and create a new category worldwide.

Sleep Corp’s flagship brand Protect-A-Bed® provides a healthy sleep zone solution by protecting mattresses from spills and stains and the sleeper from dust mites, mould and bacteria allergens - common causes and triggers of allergies, asthma and eczema. Quality and efficacy backed by a market-leading warranty. If you buy a Protect-A-Bed® Mattress Protector at the same time as your new mattress, and it stains, Sleep Corp® will clean or replace it.

Proudly Australian-owned and operated, Sleep Corp® is guided by its vision of “Supporting people to deal with life’s challenges by unlocking the power of sleep”. They continue to develop a range of market-leading Mattress and Pillow protection products and are rapidly expanding into other bedding products, both in Australia and around the world.

Having recently embarked on the industry 4.0 journey, Sleep Corp® has proudly invested in a new state-of-the-art head office and manufacturing facility in Melbourne, supporting Australian jobs and manufacturing whilst ensuring exceptional quality. As a result, sleep Corp® is set up for a strong future while it continues to help its customers sleep well and live well.

Heatlie Barbecues & Letterboxes

Meet the team at Heatlie Barbecues and Letterboxes, proud manufacturers of a comprehensive range of barbecues and cooking equipment, along with residential and commercial letterbox solutions.

Established in the 1970s, Heatlie Barbecues & Letterboxes began as a manufacturer of barbeques, roasters and food warmers for the Australian Defence Force. Today, Heatlie is a staple in both the domestic and commercial market for heavy duty cooking and catering equipment.

Heatlie Barbecues & Letterboxes has remained a tight-knit family run business since inception, with current owners, the Mead family, closing in on 20 years of tenure. In this time Heatlie has continued to develop their faithful barbeque design and expanded their line to include a built-in, outdoor kitchen range (the Island Gourmet Elite), and a public space and park range (the Community BBQ).

In 2020, Heatlie Barbecues & Letterboxes looked to diversify its manufacturing capability, and built on the strengths of their knowledge in metal fabrication by acquiring a local letterbox manufacturing business. The company now produces a comprehensive range of strong, stylish, and customisable Australian made letterboxes alongside their range of barbeques.

Heatlie Barbecues & Letterboxes prides itself on making “Australia’s toughest BBQ,” with each and every order being made to specification in North Plympton, Adelaide. In a world full of wastefulness and throwaway culture, Heatlie’s mission is to provide Australians with something that will last a lifetime, maybe even two.

The iconic Australian Made logo has always been proudly displayed alongside the Heatlie badge on the front of every barbeque produced. The Australian Made logo is an instant identifier that Heatlie Barbecues & Letterboxes is investing in local manufacturing, creating jobs and supporting local suppliers wherever possible.

CNH Industrial Australia

Meet the team from CNH Industrial Australia, proud manufacturers of Australia’s most respected agricultural equipment manufacturers, the K-Line Ag and Horwood Bagshaw.

Equipping Australian farmers with world-class machinery has been the enduring passion and proud endeavour driving the success of K-Line Ag and Horwood Bagshaw. Both businesses recently came under the stewardship of global agricultural and industry manufacturer CNH Industrial, yet remain firmly entrenched as local manufacturers and employers, delivering robust economic benefits to the rural communities in which they operate.

K-Line Ag was founded in 1993 and has become a trusted market leader in agricultural machinery. Engineered and built in Cowra, New South Wales, K-Line Ag’s products are designed, tested and refined in cooperation with local farmers to excel and adapt under the harshest of conditions.

Their market-leading tillage products, in particular, drive strong international demand, especially in North America, where K-Line Ag’s products are sold under the Case IH brand, generating valuable export income.

Horwood Bagshaw counts itself as one of Australia’s oldest agricultural machinery manufacturers; yet in 2022, its cutting-edge products are designed to meet the needs of Australian farmers, also gaining a strong international following. Established in 1838 and based in Mannum, South Australia, since 1975, it has gained a strong following for its reliable, durable and resalable products, combined with quality systems and expert after-sales support.

Both companies embody the philosophy of the parent company CNH Industrial to leverage the extensive local knowledge that comes from living and working in the farming communities their products are created to serve. This rapport, and a deep understanding of the needs of Australian farmers and rural communities, continues to empower their success.

Snooza Pet Products

Meet Brigitte Knight, animal lover and Marketing Manager at Snooza Pet Products. Snooza is an Australian manufacturer of designer pet care and comfort products that help ensure a pawfect night’s sleep for Australia’s beloved dogs and cats.

An Australian family business, they have been operating in Melbourne’s Bayside suburbs for over 30 years, providing sleep stations for pets that are crafted to be both stylish in the home and functional for pets in all shapes and sizes. Brigitte says, “From Chihuahuas to Great Danes, we manufacture a product that suits every single one of them.”

Sustainability is core to Snooza Pet Products’ values. All beds are made to be durable and washable. The company only sources Australian steel for its raised beds, uses recycled drink bottles blended with Australian Made foam crumb for bedding fibre fill, and offers a repair and re-homing service that helps promote longevity and limit landfill at end-of-life. The Snooza Head Office is even built from a recycled fit-out to lighten its touch on the planet.

All Snooza staff are pet parents themselves, which means they appreciate the important role pets play in Australian families and have an intimate understanding of how to craft bedding and accessories that keep pets happy, comfortable and relaxed.

Brigitte states the Australian Made logo is the easiest way to highlight Snooza’s Aussie credentials.

“It’s easy to find a koala or flag emblem to use on our products, but it doesn’t hold the same significance and reputation as using the Australian Made logo. We find that it’s the fastest way for a customer to identify that it’s a genuine Australian Made product.”
