Founded in 1869, and acquired by William A McNeil & Co Pty Ltd in 2013, Onkaparinga is one of Australia’s oldest and most loved bedding brands.
In a significant strategic move, Onkaparinga has reshored part of its production, manufacturing Australian Made pillows, wool quilts and underlays in its Melbourne factory.
“This year, Onkaparinga is celebrating its 150th Anniversary, which is a huge milestone for us. We are extremely proud to have played a big role in the development of Australia’s textile industry, and in our 150th year, we felt that it was important to return to our roots and our Australian manufacturing operations.
We are committed to growing our Australian manufacturing production and investing locally. Returning to the manufacture of premium Australian wool products in Australian has always been a goal of ours,” said Mr Zane Nawrocki, Sales and Marketing Manager for Onkaparinga.
With a long, rich history in Australia’s textile industry, Onkaparinga is renowned for producing beautiful bedding, with many Australians cherishing their heritage wool blankets.
Mr Nawrocki explained, “A lot of people remember Onkaparinga for our colourful wool blankets, however these are now more often than not replaced with our quilts as the most popular bedding choice. Onkaparinga has grown over the years, but we still produce the same superior quality products that retailers and consumers have come to expect from our brand. This year we have launched our Australian Collection, which features a range of proudly Australian Made quilts and pillows all made from premium Australian-grown wool.”
Onkaparinga’s Australian Collection is certified Australian Made and proudly displays the Australian Made logo on each of its products.
“The use of the Australian Made logo was something that we, as a brand, were eager to showcase. We want to ensure our quilts and pillows are instantly recognised as Australian, making them the preferred choice for shoppers wanting premium Australian-made products. The iconic green-and-gold kangaroo logo is easily recognised by Australian consumers and trusted in export markets.
We also believe the presence of the Australian Made logo is an important part of supporting and continuing to show support for Australian industries, jobs and farmers. Continuing to produce Australian-made products is an important factor in the growth and sustainability of the Australian textile industry,”Mr Nawrocki said.
In export markets, the Australian Made logo helps consumers make the 'Australian connection' with Onkaparinga instantly and clearly. The logo provides a recognisable third-party accreditation thats delivers confidence to consumers.
“Onkaparinga is expanding into export markets, and the Australian Made logo is a big part of that. All of our products in the Australian Collection have been certified to carry the Australian Made logo, and it is a prominent part of our marketing.
We have presented our products in Europe, the USA and China, and they have been very well received. Our retail partners in export markets recognise, trust and value the Australian Made logo.”
