Homemade Bread Loaf

There's nothing quite like the smell of a freshly made loaf of bread! Try out this Aussie Made Recipe, thanks to the team at Great Wrap!

Ingredients

  • 500g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon yeast
  • 375ml water
  • 100g whole wheat flour

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the plain flour, salt and yeast.
  2. Add the water to the bowl and stir with a fork until combined.
  3. Cover the bowl with Great Wrap and let it sit at room temperature for 8-12 hours to rise.
  4. Then, fold the risen dough onto itself in its original bowl 5-6 times until smooth.
  5. Place the whole wheat flour in another large bowl.
  6. Transfer the dough to this bowl, and coat its surface with flour. Cover with Great Wrap and let it rise again for 45 minutes until doubled in volume.
  7. Preheat the oven to 225°C for about 30 minutes. It’s best to use a a 3-liter Dutch oven or oven-proof pot and its lid inside.
  8. Place the floured bread dough in the center of the hot pot.
  9. With the lid on, bake the bread for 30 minutes.
  10. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 30 minutes until the bread is golden brown.
  11. Once baked, either transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool or leave it in the pot to cool.
