Designed specifically for poop or dung-loving mushrooms, this substrate is hydrated to field capacity, ensuring optimal moisture content for mushroom growth. This substrate can be used with white button mushrooms but will require a pasteurised casing layer.
Manure substrate is an advanced option typically used by experienced growers. It is not recommended for first-time growers as it is highly nutritious, making it susceptible to various types of growth. Even though the substrate is sterile, a high grain ratio (minimum 40%) is recommended to facilitate quick colonisation and reduce the chances of contamination. Millet is an excellent grain choice for manure substrate due to its slightly lower nutrition and more inoculation points than rye. For instance, 1 kg of rye might have 3000 kernels, whereas millet, being smaller, might have 8000 kernels in a kg. This higher number of inoculation points in millet allows for a more even spread and faster colonisation.
