The Australian Made Campaign regularly campaigns for improvements to country-of-origin labelling laws and other issues that are important to our manufacturers and growers. Below you will find a selection of recent submissions to public inquiries.

Submission to the Review of Food Labelling Law and Policy

Submission to the Review of Food Labelling Law and Policy

In this submission the Australian Made Campaign proposes that all food products should be required to carry a country of origin claim, and that the Food Standards Code should continue to rely on the rules for country of origin claims set out in the Trade Practices Act and eventually in the new Australian Consumer Law. Australian Made also proposes that in order to make a claim that a product is ‘made in’ a country, the product must be ‘substantially transformed’ in that country. In addition, Australian Made proposes that companies should no longer be permitted to use qualified claims such as ‘Made in Australia from imported and local ingredients’ unless products meets the tests for a ‘Made in ...’ claim.

Submission to Senate Economics Committee Inquiry into the Trade Practices Act Amendment (Australian Consumer Law) Bill (No. 2) 2010

In this submission the Australian Made Campaign proposes to clarify of the concept of ‘substantial transformation’, specify processes which, by themselves, do not satisfy this test, and disallow qualified claims for products which do not satisfy this test. In addition, Australian Made proposes making 'Grown in' claims  relating to representations about the origin of ingredients or components of a good more stringent. Finally, Australian Made seeks to have the AMAG logo prescribed for use as a representation of country of origin where the level of cost of production is 51% or greater.

Submission to the Senate Finance and Public Administration References Committee Inquiry into Commonwealth Procurement Procedures

Submission to the Senate Finance and Public Administration References Committee Inquiry into Commonwealth Procurement Procedures

In this submission the Australian Made Campaign proposes Government procurement policies take a ‘whole of life’ approach to evaluating tenders, which will take into account the significant benefits to government and to the economy generally of purchasing locally manufactured products. Australian Made also proposes these policies take into account and compensate for the systemic barriers faced by Australian manufacturers in tendering. Finally, Australian Made proposes certain types of products (for example, the flag on our Parliament House) should, for reasons of national pride, always be sourced locally.

Submission to the Minister for Industry, the Hon Ian Macfarlane MP, in relation to the Government's Economic Reviews of South Australia and Victoria and the National Industry Investment and Competitiveness Agenda Taskforce

In this submission the Australian Made Campaign proposes measures that would help Australian manufacturers, processors and famers sell their products, both here and overseas, and addresses the vexed issue of Government procurement because of its importance in the domestic marketplace.
