Proudly 100% Australian owned and operated, Red Energy was launched with one simple goal, to genuinely put customers first.

As the first energy retailer certified with the iconic Australian Made logo, Red Energy’s Chief Executive and one of its founders Iain Graham said being Australian has been a major driver behind the brand since it entered the local market in 2004.

“When we started, we wanted to build a business that would shake things up in the industry and make it simple for customers. We have survived despite the odds and we have customers who stay with us and also refer their friends and family. It’s a real-life story of the little Aussie battler that I’m very proud of,” said Mr Graham.

“One thing that can separate an Australian business from an international business is that we live here, we’re locals, and we want to contribute to the local economy. Our customers have told us the fact we are an Australian company is really important to them, so we are very proud to carry the Australian Made and Owned logo.”

Owned by Snowy Hydro Limited, Red Energy offers electricity and gas in Victoria, New South Wales , South Australia, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory. Red Energy employs more than 1,200 people, most of whom are based in its Customer Solutions Centre located in the heritage listed Bryant and May building in Richmond, Victoria.

The team has proven that they can adapt in the rapidly changing retail market to stay competitive and build a loyal customer base who want to support an Aussie business.  In fact, Red Energy is the only retailer to have won a Canstar Blue Award for most satisfied customers ten years in a row.

“Our community has come to trust Red as a truly Australian energy provider, knowing that every phone call they make will be answered by someone in Australia, which benefits not only the customer but local economies, communities and families” said Mr Graham.

During the summer bushfires and the recent drought Red Energy had dedicated teams proactively helping its impacted customers. This assistance included bill and debt suspensions, bill credits and advice on accessing government support. Red continues to help and support customers through the COVID-19 crisis.

“Our customers regularly tell us that buying Australian is important to them.  We have made many commercial decisions to ensure that our operations remain in Australia because we appreciate the flow-on effects this has on the communities we do business in, our staff and ultimately to our customers,” explained Mr Graham.

Red Energy prides itself on its commitment to local communities. The business has developed a number of regional and rural partnerships with organisations such as the Calder United Soccer Club and the Police Citizen Youth Centre, and supports many causes with national reach, including Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).

For Iain Graham, seeing tens of thousands of women come together each year, standing shoulder to shoulder as part of BCNA’s “Field of Women”, is a humbling reminder of the power of community and working together.

“We partner with BCNA because they share the values we hold dear, of decency and courage particularly. The contribution of BCNA to the community is profound and we are proud to be able to contribute and support what is a very personal cause to many Australians.”

The iconic green and gold kangaroo logo is featured on all of Red Energy’s advertising, customer bills, website and other marketing materials to communicate to consumers that Red Energy is 100% Australian owned.

“We believe the Australian Made logo is a symbol consumers recognise and value. We are proud to be able to attach it to our brand. Supporting Australian businesses is important to many Australians, but sometimes it can be challenging to decipher the genuine from the imposters.  The Australian Made logo is the mark of Aussie authenticity and a great tool for Australian businesses.

“By supporting Australian Made products and the businesses that make them, we can all do our little bit to ensure the future health of our economy and our community” said Mr Graham.
