The Australian sun is among the harshest on earth and can burn unprotected skin in as little as a few minutes. Sunscreen is one of the most common methods of sun protection, and for over 40 years, Maxiblock has been helping Australians with its range of trusted sunscreens.
Owned and run by an experienced chemist, Thibaut Mortier, Maxiblock demystifies the complexity of sun protection with its products offering the defence needed to safely enjoy the Australian sun.
“The Australian sun is uniquely strong, and every Australian family is concerned by the risk of skin cancer and skin damage. Two out of three Australians will develop skin cancer during their lives. Sun protection is a serious matter.
Maxiblock Sunscreen Australia is about providing the protection and the peace of mind that is required to safely enjoy the outdoors. Our mission is straightforward, to provide protection you can trust,” Mr Mortier said.
A sunscreen expert, Mr Mortier graduated from the French ParisTech graduate school of chemistry and has since been involved in the development of UV filter technology around the world.
Since acquiring Maxiblock Sunscreen Australia, Mr Mortier has combined his knowledge in sunscreen with his passion for local manufacturing.
“Maxiblock Sunscreen is as Australian as you can get. All of our sunscreens are all formulated and manufactured in Australia, and most of our tubes, containers, labels and cartons are made in Australia too.
Manufacturing components in Australia has several benefits. The lead time to receive the goods is minimised, all of our products have complete traceability, and we have complete quality control over each process. It also means that counterfeiting is very unlikely,” Mr Mortier said.
“By buying Australian Made products consumer help to sustain and grow our advanced manufacturing technologies. Australia’s economy has become less complex recently, relying heavily on a few key sectors to sustain economic activity. At Maxiblock, we are proud to help maintain and expand advanced manufacturing in Australia.”
Based in Perth, Western Australia, Maxiblock has had national success and now sells to independent supermarkets and pharmacies across Australia.
Mr Mortier explained, “We have been very fortunate to receive support from a number of Australian retailers that have allowed us to access 2,000 stores across Australia.
When we took over the brand, we quickly identified Australian consumers are highly supportive of Australian-made products and the Australian Made logo. So in 2014 we decided to become a licensee, only a few months after acquiring the business.
The strongest benefit that has come from using the Australian Made logo is the instant recognition we receive. The logo is proof that we’re genuinely Australian and manufacture locally. There is a lot of trust that comes with it.”
Underpinned by a third-party accreditation system, the Australian Made logo is Australia's most trusted, recognised and widely used country of origin symbol.
Mr Mortier said, “Our discussions with retailers and customers found that the Australian Made logo was an important purchasing factor for many. You often hear that consumers pretend to care about Australian producers, but when it comes to paying for an item price is their first consideration - our experiences challenge this. We found customers wanted to support local manufacturers and were willing to pay more for the quality associated with Australian Made products.”
Maxiblock manufactures a range of sunscreens, zinc creams, insect repellents and after sun aloe vera gels from Perth, Western Australia. You can learn more about Maxiblock at www.maxiblock.com.au.
