Leisure Technologies co-founders Tony and Andre developed WiTi after being frustrated with cable and plug management when towing off-road. Designed and manufactured in Western Australia, WiTi is now the leading Anti-Theft, Wireless Towing and Wireless Brake Controller solution in Australia and New Zealand.
The idea of WiTi came to Tony and Andre on a camping trip. Dissatisfied with the painful process of fixing cables and plugs whilst towing off-road, they were inspired to make a wireless towing and anti-theft system. After spending the next few years developing the software and hardware required to make their product, they launched WiTi in January 2018.
WiTi is 100% manufactured in-house, with all components from the circuit boards to the plastic enclosures made in Leisure Technologies' Joondalup factory. The manufacturing process includes using WiTi's own electronics assembly line, soldering mechanically and manually, and using injection moulding machines to manufacture plastic mouldings for the products.
Tony believes manufacturing in Australia has greatly benefited Leisure Technologies in terms of quality control and flexibility.
"By manufacturing locally, we can maintain a very high level of quality, to the point where we are now confident in offering a lifetime warranty. We could only do this by controlling the entire manufacturing process. Manufacturing in Australia has benefits that far exceed the pure cost."
"Making our products locally also means we can adjust to the rapidly changing market conditions. Because we can manufacture products in time for market changes, we can reduce stock holdings and react quickly to increasing changes in demand for our product set," Andre said.
WiTi is a world-first for the caravanning and leisure industries, and currently, no similar product is available anywhere else in the world. Right now, Leisure Technologies exports WiTi to New Zealand and are investigating future opportunities in the US market.
"Leisure Technologies is passionate about camping and the outdoor lifestyle, and we want to become a global leader in this industry. We are proud that WiTi originated from Australia and is made in Australia, and displaying the Australian Made logo makes this clear to consumers.
Supporting the Australian Made Campaign was a no-brainer for us. Having the Australian Made logo on our products means that our customers know we support local jobs and invest in Australian intellectual property development. We believe it's important that consumers buy Australian Made products because it helps to develop local skill sets and helps grow Australia's manufacturing capacity and capability. Purchasing from small businesses makes all the difference in the manufacturing sector, as our workforce has such a diverse skillset."
