Founded in 2005 by John and Scott Apperley, Australian Botanical Soap is an Australian-owned and operated family business dedicated to providing premium quality, natural base soap bars at an affordable price.
The business started when John Apperley saw a gap in the supermarket shelves for a more natural, plant-based soap bar and filled it - a true entrepreneurial story.
Australian Botanical Soap has grown into an iconic Australian business with a loyal and passionate customer base. John and Scott’s soap bars can now be found in retailers all over the world, including Coles, Woolworths, IGA and Costco here in Australia.
Brand Owner, Scott Apperley, said “We believe Australia is the best country in the world. We built our brand in this country, our family was raised in this country and we want to continue to support this country.
“Seeing the pride my Dad has every time our soap gets positioned onto a new store’s shelves, both in Australia and around the world, brings a smile to my face.
“After 15 years in the marketplace, we now see our soaps being sold on the shelves in many different countries. We export our products to China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, USA, Canada, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Mexico and are working with suppliers in Europe and Indonesia to make our soaps available there”.

Based in Victoria, Australian Botanical Soap has a reputation for providing premium soap bars with quality, ethically sourced, natural ingredients.
“We have spent years developing a soap range that has something for everyone,” Mr Apperley said.
“Our natural soap base has a high plant-derived glycerin content which works to retain your skin's moisture. All of our soaps are tripled milled, which allows the ingredients to be mixed evenly producing a denser bar with more soap and less water, this means the soap lasts longer and lathers up beautifully.”
All of Australian Botanical Soaps are made with the highest quality raw materials and the best manufacturing processes available. Mr Apperley also believes the ingredients that they leave out of Australian Botanical Soaps are just as important as the ones they put in.
“We believe that the ingredients you use on your body are as important as the ingredients you place into your body. Our soap base contains no EDTA, HEDP, Polypropylene Glycol, Polyethylene Glycol, Petro-chemicals, Parabens, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Phthalates.”
With environmental and ethical issues increasing playing a part in consumers shopping decisions, Australian Botanical Soap is passionate about providing quality products with minimal impact.
“Environmental awareness and implementation were a key consideration when we developed our soap range. Our packaging is recyclable, none of the ingredients found in our soap are tested on animals and we have always been dedicated to using sustainable pure plant oils in the manufacture of our bars.”
Recent Roy Morgan research found that around half of Australians associated the iconic Australian Made logo with products that had sustainable, environmentally friendly and clean and green attributes. It was also associated with supporting local jobs, high-quality products and ethical labour.
Mr Apperley said, “All of our Australian Botanical products carry the logo either on the bar itself or on the boxes that the bars are contained in. We decided to use the Australian Made logo on our products because it’s a trusted symbol that communicates to shoppers that we are based in Australia. It shows we manufacture our products in Australia and give Australian people job opportunities.
“Carrying the Australian Made Logo has been a big plus for our business. We find that products that carry the Australian Made logo are sought after by not only by Australian consumers but also by overseas consumers.
“People trust the logo - it is a seal of approval.”
