Shining bright as the only certified Australian Made solar panel manufacturer, Tindo Solar’s story is one of innovation and continuous improvement.
Tindo was established in 2011 with a desire to create purpose-built solar panels that conquer the unique conditions of the Australian climate. Since then, the Tindo name has become synonymous with high-quality local manufacturing and making clean, sustainable energy.
Tindo’s solar panels are designed and made in South Australia at their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility known as the Australian Centre for Excellence in Photovoltaics (ACEPV). ACEPV is a hub of innovative manufacturing practices, wiring technologies, cutting-edge robotics, and more. This combines with the expertise of more than 60 employees, all working to provide quality solar panels to homes and buildings around the country.
The latest panels in the Tindo Walara Series are the company’s 8th generation solar modules and have been independently tested, reviewed and verified to outperform international manufacturers in Australian conditions*. Tindo CEO Richard Petterson said that Tindo’s drive to improve its products has been facilitated by developing new manufacturing processes.
“We’ve always intended to lead the Australian renewable manufacturing industry by creating outstanding products, and demonstrating care and consideration for people and the planet,” said Mr Petterson.
“When you visit the Tindo manufacturing facility you can see a range of considered differences that show our new way of thinking about production and quality. We’re driving Australian innovation – developing skills and innovation through Australian assets and IP.”
Tindo prides itself on its rigorous quality control measures, with a Zero-Defect Manufacturing Process that means every Tindo panel undergoes rigorous testing at seven predetermined quality checkpoints. This process ensures that the panels retain high performance over each product’s lifetime. This attention to quality has meant that in over a decade of production, there have been zero delamination failures recorded in Tindo solar PV modules.
Using its solar panels to ‘harness the potential of the Australian sun’ is just one part of Tindo’s commitment to Australia’s transition to sustainable energy. ACEPV’s production process also uses renewable practices. “We’re creating renewables with renewables. It’s important to us that we make renewable energy solutions with environmentally conscious practices, creating a harmonious relationship between manufacturing and sustainability,” said Mr Petterson.
Tindo has seen many benefits from making its panels in South Australia, from a confidence in quality and producing less carbon emissions, to contributing to the local economy and supporting a local labour force.
Manufacturing locally has helped Tindo to foster collaborative partnerships with Australia’s top universities and research institutions and stay closely connected to partners and end customers. With local experience and knowledge, Tindo creates its solar panels and solutions specifically tailored for the Australian market, and also works with local businesses to strengthen local supply chains where possible.
“We all know it’s important to support local businesses, but beyond that, investing in an Australian Made solar panel brings you a sense of reliability and trust,” said Mr Petterson. “People see the Australian Made logo on our products and they know there’s a rich source of knowledge behind it, and that it’s been made to our high standards.
“The Australian Made logo reflects all the work from the local team and the experience and pride that goes into every one of our panels – consumers can feel that connection.”
Tindo’s unique position as the only solar panel manufacturer in Australia is a point of difference. Despite global competition from mass-scaled solar panels that vary in quality and suitability to Australia’s climate, Tindo retains its competitive edge as a certified Australian Made manufacturer.
The passionate South Australian team continues to innovate its own products and processes to support the country’s journey to a cleaner future. “Behind our panels is a company built on dreams to make a difference,” said Mr Petterson. “We are committed to driving the Australian energy transition through creating innovative and precision solar panels that support future generations.”
