Chewy Caramel Slice

Here’s a new twist on a classic Aussie caramel slice recipe! An extra hint of coconut is our secret for a delicious hint of chewiness. Best of all this tasty treat can be made with stacks of locally sourced ingredients.

Ingredients

  •  1 cup self-raising flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup desiccated coconut
  • 150g butter melted
  • 395g condensed milk
  • 2 tbs golden syrup
  • 30g butter *extra
  • 1 cup milk chocolate melts

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180C.
  2. Line an 18cm x 28cm lamington pan with baking paper.
  3. Combine flour, sugar, coconut and melted butter. Mix well.
  4. Press into the prepared pan and bake for 10 minutes.
  5. Whilst the base is cooking, combine condensed milk, golden syrup and extra butter in a saucepan.
  6. Stir over medium heat until almost boiling, stirring constantly.
  7. Reduce to a low heat and cook for 5 minutes stirring constantly.
  8. Pour caramel over base and bake for a further 10 minutes. Allow to cool.
  9. Spread caramel slice with melted chocolate.
  10. Refrigerate until set.
  11. Cut into pieces, then serve.
