WHAT IS THERMAL INSULATION?
Thermal Insulation Blankets are made up of three essential parts.
1. HOT FACE
Using Aluminium Coated Silica Glass rather than mesh has proven very successful. It does not transfer heat in the same way mesh would, and heat is reflected keeping the outer layer cooler. Non-permeable aluminium material prevents the absorption of flammable liquids that would otherwise become a potential point of combustion. It also allows better fitment of the blanket and reduces the risk of creating a power short or conduction point.
2. INSULATION
The needle mat layer is made from silica glass needle felt, which has better thermal properties than the commonly used fibreglass needle mat; it is also a lot less irritating to the skin, making it easier to work with when fitting.
3. COLD FACE
The outer layer is known as the “Cold Face”, which consists of a fibreglass cloth that can be coated in a variety of different materials such as Silicone, Aluminium or Teflon. Silicone coating is most popular on mobile underground plant, as it is non-absorbent, and repels oils and other flammable liquids that may cause a fire.
