The Australian Made Campaign welcomes the Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement (A-EU FTA), recognising it as a promising opportunity to boost growth for Australian manufacturers.
The A-EU FTA represents a measured but meaningful development for local industry. The agreement promises to lower trade and investment barriers for Australian exporters, with 98% of the current value of Australia’s exports being able to enter duty-free into the large and established market.
Once implemented (this could take up to 2 years), the Australian Government has advised that all tariffs on Australia’s advanced manufacturing and other industrial goods (except steel) will be eliminated, including:
- machinery and electrical goods
- textiles
- auto parts
- aluminium, zinc, lead and silicon
- optical and photographic or cinematographic products
- chemical and pharmaceutical
- plastics and rubber products
- wood and plywood
- toy games and sports-related products
The Australian Made logo is already a registered trademark in the European Union, providing a legal framework and protection for the logo under local law. Licensed Australian makers and growers are the only group permitted to use it.
Australian Made Chief Executive, Ben Lazzaro, explained, “One of the great strengths of the logo is its ability to clearly identify Australian goods in export markets, making it a valuable marketing tool for Australian manufacturers. For 40 years, the iconic green and gold logo has aided Aussies in taking their goods abroad.”
“For Australian manufacturers and producers, the free trade agreement presents a practical opportunity to expand into Europe. While lower trade barriers do not guarantee immediate growth, they will help to create greater accessibility for Australian exporters looking to establish or strengthen their presence in Europe.”
The agreement, alongside existing brand recognition tools like the Australian Made logo, offers a structured pathway for businesses investing in international expansion.
New Kantar Research (2026) found that 96% of consumers in overseas markets have a positive impression of the Australian Made logo, with 94% believing products that carry the mark are genuinely from Australia. They also associated the Australian Made logo with trustworthiness, environmental friendliness, and authenticity, and noted that it was easily recognisable.
