The Australian Made Campaign Ltd (AMCL) has welcomed the government’s ‘Buy Australian Plan’ outlined in the 2025 Federal Budget.
The Plan includes a $20M commitment over three years for AMCL to ramp up its promotional activity and encourage Australians to buy more Aussie products.
More than 90% of Australians have a preference for Australian-made products. This funding will help to further raise the profile of the Australian Made logo and support more local manufacturers and producers to achieve Australian Made certification, making it easier for shoppers to buy Aussie products.
AMCL will also receive a $5M injection over three years to promote and protect the famous Australian Made logo in key export markets. These commitments, alongside a strategy of using government procurement to favour domestic companies, are welcome initiatives to champion and prioritise Aussie manufacturers.
Australian Made Chief Executive Ben Lazzaro said the Buy Australian Plan is a big win for Australia’s manufacturers and producers.
“This level of support for Australian Made is unprecedented, and we look forward to contributing to a strengthened Australian manufacturing sector that not only creates high-quality products but creates new jobs and economic activity. It’s important that we value our manufacturing sector and foster an environment that encourages and assists manufacturers to innovate and build on their success while providing pathways to new markets.”
Recent trade uncertainty and challenging market access conditions have highlighted the importance of supporting Australia’s sovereign manufacturing capability.
Lazzaro said, “A strategic approach to ‘buy local’ initiatives, incorporating consumers, businesses and all levels of government is paramount. The Buy Australian Plan will provide much-needed support for Australian manufacturers and help bolster the local economy.”
There are around 4,500 businesses with products licensed to carry the Australian Made logo across a wide range of goods. These logo users represent approximately 40,000 jobs and generate a combined annual revenue of around $8 billion.
Lazzaro said, “Reinvesting in local industry and local jobs through sustainable purchasing policies that prioritise genuine Aussie products for significant projects, supply contracts, and everyday consumables is one that will ultimately benefit all Australians.
It’s never been more important for local manufacturers to market their products with prominent Australian Made branding. To apply to use the Australian Made, Australian Grown logo on locally made products, visit www.australianmade.com.au/apply.
