On Tuesday 15 August, Business Sydney hosted Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Federal Assistant Minister for Trade, and Federal Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, for a business briefing.
At the event, supported by the Australian Made Campaign, Assistant Minister Ayres discussed his current policy priorities and recent engagements with foreign partners on advancing Australia’s trade and manufacturing interests.
“I want to make it plain; one of the defining challenges of this era is to build industrial capability and sovereign capability and maintain Australia’s standing as a strong, confident open market economy that trades with the region and the world,” said the Assistant Minister.
“Australia is uniquely positioned in this regard – with limitless solar and wind reserves, globally significant supplies of critical minerals and advanced critical technology capability. In this sense, we eclipse other countries.”
After the main presentation, Assistant Minister Ayres was joined by Australian Made Chair and Director of A.H. Beard Pty Ltd, Allyn Beard, for a panel discussion facilitated by Melina Morrison, CEO of the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals.
The discussion addressed the key challenges and opportunities for Australia’s manufacturing industry, Australia’s relationship with key trade partners, and securing domestic supply chains to achieve national sovereignty.
Over 80 senior business leaders were in attendance, including Australian Made Chief Executive Ben Lazzaro.
